Last week, fab action man Jeff Baker from Stunt Action Specialists came in and put the students through their Pirate, Muskateer and Ninja paces! The Juniors developed some of the fighting skills that they have previously studied; focussing on greater movement in attack and defence, improving their fightings stances and exploring the differences between the Pirate and Muskateer fighting styles. The Seniors started their session by  brushing up their ‘foil’ skills (with particular emphasis on the ‘Fencing 8′) before downing their swords and working on some hand to hand combat, Ninja stylee!! By the end of their session they were all looking pretty hardcore – I’m not sure I’d want to meet any of those Ninja characters on a dark night..!! In the joint session, both groups continued to build on their Game Shows. Each section is really starting to take shape now and we’re looking forward to planning where each segment will take place in the promenade! Exciting times ahead!!

This week we had a double whammy of teachers in the form of Melody Roche and James Weisz!  The Juniors had a very productive session, developing their previous work on levels of energy and tension and the connections between movement and voice. They also worked on improving their improvisation skills, by creating a short piece of RWT; looking at the  use of space and the passing of time in their sketches. The Seniors started their session with some vocal work, looking at ways to warm up and strengthen the voice and again, the connection between movement and ‘vocality’.  They then went on to continue developing their Meisner skills starting with the Repetition Exercise and Mirrored Observations (which they are becoming quite advanced at) and then looking at introducing the Meisner Technique into exercises that they are already familiar with: Park Bench and quick devising with a first line.  In our joint session the students started to expand on the Game Show work that they had started on last term. Dividing into smaller groups they each had to crteate a working game that Melody and James had to complete, whilst developing the Host’s character considering catch-phrases, mannerisms and costume!

What a cracking first day back after the Christmas break! Our spring season kicked off with great sessions led by the ever popular Actor/Director James Pegg. The students looked at birds and in particular how they moved; characteristics that they then put into human form with some fascinating results! The seniors also worked with a beautiful, old Victorian bird cage and devised individual monologues around this lovely prop, creating some stunning pieces; some funny, some clever and some heart wrenchingly moving…
Random Word Theatre this week also produced some fantastic sketches (as ever); including a really well thought out and excellently performed piece by the junior girls who really showed how far they have come over the past year. Well done ladies!
