This week we had a totally tropical experience with the fabulous Rachel Hayward who brought the sound of the Caribbean to theatrecenter with something a little different: a masterclass in steel pan playing! Both groups learnt the basic techniques of pan playing – a challenge that they all rose to admirably – and by the end of their sessions both groups were able to perform 2 quite complex pieces: very impressive! We also had some amazing pieces of Random Word Theatre (Rachel and I both said that some of the pieces were better than some professional performances we’d seen in the past!!) including 6 ice related disaters, a morning after a night before and a one man natural history programme (courtesey of Charlie); one of the funniest pieces of physical theatre I have seen in a long time! In fact it was SO good that the students requested a repeat performance at the end of the session – Go Charlie!!
