Last Saturday – PRESENTATION!!
Friday, April 8th, 2011Wow! What an amazing day!! Because of the way we work (a different tutor with a different subject each week) it’s always a bit of a challenge for the students when we suddenly turn round and expect them to remember pieces that they’ve put together 10 weeks earlier in the term – with only a couple of hours rehearsal before the performance! But, as ever, our fabulous team of young performers really pulled out all the stops and produced a totally awesome presentation! We kicked off the proceedings with a showing (on the Big Screen) of some of the films we had made this term (with massive thanx to Ryan Laight and (ex-student) Oliver Banks for their excellent editing skills!), followed by Creation Of A Monster – a movement piece based on the Frankenstein story; some excellent demonstrations of the Meisner Technique; 2 of our favourite Random Word Theatre pieces (‘Secret’ and ‘Who’); Murmuration; and to finish – a beautifully performed (and at times very moving) musical version of ‘The Empty Box’ exercise! We had an excellent turn out (standing room only!!) and the audience was extremely appreciative – with some wonderful feedback afterwards!! Congratulations to the theatrecenter Class of Spring 2011 – you should be very proud of the work that you have done this term – we certainly are..!!
This Week – Saturday 2nd April
Friday, April 8th, 2011The Easter holidays are rapidly approaching (where does the time go?!) and this week we will be having our end of term presentation; being held in the Drama Studio from 4 pm and lasting for about 45 mins – an hour. Why not pop along and see some of the results of what we get up to on a Saturday afternoon? Admission is free and all are welcome – We hope to see you there!!
Pip (07957 641 210) and Jo (07979 222 140) will be in the supervisors chair this week (they may have to squish in order to both get on it!) and will be on site from 12pm!
Last Week
Friday, April 8th, 2011Physical theatre specialist John Hinton was our workshop leader this week and we had a great session discovering new ways of improvising! John brought in a brilliant selection of picture & word cards and we used these to create characters and situations that changed on the turn of a card! We looked at the idea of ‘Less Is More’ and the students were challenged to create a 10 second piece of theatre in under a minute (really tricky!!) and a 1 minute piece of theatre in under 5 – a challenge that both groups rose to admirably!! Using some of the techniques that we’d been working on that day, the students then put together 2 contrasting pieces of Random Word Theatre – ‘Secret’ and ‘Door’
