Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011Last Week
Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011We were graced by the presence of the much adored Ben Murray Watson last week. With both the Juniors and Seniors he worked on exceptional monster creations, developing their earlier Frankenstein movement pieces, building up weird and wonderful isolated body part movements and adding them together until they became one whole being. Weird and wonderful!
Pip’s running a MARATHON!
Wednesday, March 16th, 2011Our truly amazing and multi-talented Pip flys off to Lisbon this week to prepare for running the Lisbon Half Marathon on Sunday 21st March. Pip has been training hard since January and is running to raise money for Herons Dale, the Special Needs Primary School which Jo’s 5 year old son Rufus attends. It is a truly remarkable school and Pip is raising money specifically for Music Therapy for Rufus’ class of pre-verbal Autistic children. Music seems to breakthrough many of the Autistic barriers and allow these children to communicate in a way that is not otherwise possible. If you would like to contribute to Pip’s fundraising please remember to bring in your sponsorship money in an envelope marked”RufusRun”. Thank you and GOOD LUCK PIP!

Wednesday, March 16th, 2011The uber talented Mr James Pegg returned last week, for more fascinating improvisation work. Both Juniors and Seniors were given an empty box and asked to experiment with scenarios based upon the chosen contents of their box. Some beautiful, funny and disturbing scenarios followed. Next James read us an extract from Frankenstein and both groups brainstormed how we might physically represent the creation of Frankenstein, based on feelings and images evoked from the reading. This discussion evolved into a highly polished movement piece. The Seniors then looked again at their Smiths Opera, working on scenes based on the Smiths song “How Soon is Now?”.

Last Week: Saturday 5th March
Friday, March 11th, 2011We kicked off the new half of the term with an amazing animation and film-making session led by the ever popular Ryan Laight. The Juniors created some wild and crazy characters which they filmed in the stop motion style, concentrating on the facial movements. They also wrote and recorded a spoken soundtrack for each character, giving their creations a voice and something to say! The Seniors (as well has assisting the Juniors with the filming of their animations) started work on their piece entitled ‘It Is OK; It’s Not OK’ : a film incorporating live action and animation! They created various paper items (including spectacles, snails, food and random ‘comedy’ clothing) which will be used as the animations at a later date, created a ‘discussion’ soundtrack and then filmed various scenes using 2 cameras to allow them greater choice of footage when editing.
We’re Back!!
Friday, March 11th, 2011Appologies for our silence over the last couple of weeks – we have been experiencing some problems with the website. But thanks to the genious of our techno-wizard, the fabulous Martin Gordon, we are up and running again; although it may take us a while to undo some of the damage done by those naughty techno-gremlins… Thanks for bearing with us!
