We were joined by one of our favourite actor/directors, Mr James Pegg. Our Junior Group explored walking through porridge as their very sticky and physical warm-up. Then they went to a party…the game starts with a guest holding a cup and telling a story, then other guests take hold of the cup and continue the story seamlessly as soon as the cup enters their hand. Needless to say it made for quite an extraordinary party! In our joint session we entered the world of Text speak (which made James and I feel very old and uncool!). Everyone took a handful of their favourite text abbreviations and turned them into hilarious scenes…the BRB tea party, the LOL knitting group and the OMG Sermon to name but a few. The senior group tried their hand at the party cup game with much laughter. Then they looked at some Smiths lyrics and created scenes from certain lines. We’re working towards a Smiths Opera, which looks set to be a masterpiece! Great session.

We had a great first session back, with lots of drama games, exercises and much fun! We created abstract scenes from random words and looked at “murmuration”, moving seamlessly as a group. Pip will be looking to do some Greek Running with the senior group, which requires trust within a group and the ability to follow each other almost instinctively. This was our first go at physically moving as a group in this way and looks set to be a great foundation for the Greek Running.

Yes! It’s the dawn of a new Year and a fab new term here at theatrecenter! Jo and Pip will be in the driving seat today and are looking forward to welcoming you all back after, what we hope was, a great Christmas!!
