This Week ~ Saturday 26th June

Saturday, June 26th, 2010Pip & Jo were in the driving seat this week and we started to look at some scripts for our ‘rehearsed readings’ which we will be working on until the end of term! The Juniors chose ‘The Birthday Party’ by Julia Donaldson and the Seniors went for a very quirky little piece by Louis De Bernieres: ‘Sunday Morning at the Centre of the World’. Both groups ‘cold read’ the scripts extremely well (a very useful abillity!) and we then started to look at the casting process.

Last Saturday…
Friday, June 18th, 2010We had a corking start to the second half of our summer term programme with the wonderful Ryan Laight, who brought us a session on make-up & Physical Stop Motion Animation! The Juniors chose ‘Alien Transformation’ as their theme and started off by taking individual photos of each other. They then gradually added ‘layers’ of make-up, (followed by some spots!!) taking photos of each stage as they went. Once the alien transformation was complete they gradually removed the make-up: again taking photos of each stage, then uploaded the photos to a special animation programme and worked with Ryan to edit their footage into a final ‘moving’ piece (copies of which they were able to take home)! The Seniors spent the beginning of their session creating a soundtrack for the Juniors’ animation by creating a Stomp style, ‘rubbish’ band – with great effect! They then looked at the whole process of creating this kind of animation from start to finish;
story-boarding, continuity, directing, make-up, camera work, editing and soundtrack and started to put together an, as yet untitled, film of their own!
What We Did On The 22nd May!
Friday, June 18th, 2010James Pegg and Jo brought Sound & Music to the sessions this week! Incorporating some of the techniques that we explored last term, both groups built ‘soundscapes’ using only their bodies and whatever they could find in the drama studio, to create two aurally atmospheric scenes! We also spent some time looking at different ways to use our voices; and what happens when we can’t hear what’s being said on stage- which resulted in a collection of very funny scenes (including an opera!!) performed through a window (the audience being unable to hear), accompanied by soundtrack only.
