Ryan Laight joined us again this week for the last in this terms series of animation workshops. We started by making a ‘static’ animation (by drawing around a moving person – very tricky but very effective!!), then looked at releasing our inner artists by finding different ways of drawing, using different types of media (and the effects that this had on the outcome of our characters) before creating some whacky creatures to bring to life! The Juniors made some very imaginative 3D models and then filmed them ‘misbehaving’ in the hallways and the Seniors created two giant 2D models which they had to physically operate themeselves (as part of the animation) and Ryan then gave them a brief crash course in how to use the computer to give these beings life!

Next Week ~ 27th March ~ End Of Term!

Saturday, March 20th, 2010

Next week is our last session of the term. We have chosen not to do a presentation this season but will be filming some of the work that we have put together over the last few months instead – and there may even be a few Easter surprises along the way too..!

Pip & Sheila were running the show this week. The Juniors read a story about a frog and some jumbled up spells and then re-created events by inventing some weird & wonderful, jumbled up creatures of their own! The Seniors continued with our theme of soundtrack and created atmosphere using only their bodies and voices. We then built a spooky camping scene with strange noises outside a tent!
We also had a look at doing some ‘bubble choreography’ – but unfortunately we didn’t quite manage to get the bubble ‘mix’ right – we had lots of fun trying though!

Ryan Laight will be our guest tutor this week and he has requested that the senior group come dressed in dark (preferably black) clothing on this date – things that they don’t mind getting dirty..!!

Owen Aaranovitch was back with us this week and he brought half his kitchen with him! He ran a fantastic session on ‘timing’ (both comic and dramatic); and ‘movement to sound’ (‘effects’ as opposed to music); and we created 4 hilarious restaurant based pieces to a sound track composed of pots and pans!! We also revisited the idea of creating a character from ideas rather than props; and then put together 4 short scenes using these new characters.
